About Gregory Cefai, Australian SEO specialist since 2011
I’m Gregory Cefai, though most people call me Greg. I’ve spent 15 years working across technical SEO, international SEO, digital products, content, ecommerce and search engineering, helping hundreds of businesses across Australia and around the world.

I’ve usually been happier behind the website than in front of a camera
I started working professionally in SEO in Australia in 2011. Since then I’ve worked with local businesses, ecommerce companies, enterprise organisations, global gaming brands, sports publishers, international products and very large programmatic websites.
My career has moved from content and digital marketing into increasingly technical work: JavaScript rendering, crawl and indexation, international architecture, schema, semantic search, product ownership and the systems that determine whether search engines can understand a website at scale.
I like the complicated problems. The ones where the obvious explanation turns out not to be the real one.
My wife, my kids and my parents

The people who made me
My grandparents, my parents, my wife and my kids made me who I am. If it wasn’t for them, I would be nothing. This website is a small thanks to them for the simple and humble life I have.

Mum and Dad
My parents, Dominic and Mary, were the first couple married at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Greystanes, the church my grandfathers built and painted. They shaped me and inspired me to be who I am today.
Search is a big part of my life, but it isn’t the whole thing

History
I love history, ancient civilisations and archaeology. If a place has ruins, old streets or a story stretching back a few thousand years, I’m interested.

Travel & Culture
Old cities, coastlines and mountains, and the food, language and traditions that come with them. I’m also a licensed tour guide in Italy and Australia.

Cooking
I’m a certified Neapolitan pizza chef with the AVPN in Naples, and cooking is still one of my favourite ways to switch off.

Fishing
Give me a coastline and a fishing rod and I’m very easy to keep occupied.

Nature
Coastlines, forests, mountains and anywhere that gets me away from a screen.

Gardening & farming
I grow a variety of fruit and vegetables and keep small-scale livestock. Zero-kilometre food, straight from the garden to the table, and I even make my own Maltese ġbejniet.

Family
Most importantly, I’m a husband and dad. My wife and kids are the centre of life outside work.

I never built my career around being the loudest person in the room
I’ve regularly attended search, gaming, digital and technology events around the world and have been invited to speak at a number of them. I usually refuse because I’m extremely camera shy. Put me in front of Search Console, rendered HTML or a difficult migration and I’m comfortable. Put a camera in front of me and it is a very different story.
For most of my career, the work has happened quietly behind websites, products, technical teams and search strategies. GregCefai.com is where I finally put more of that experience in one place.
