AfricaSoccer technical SEO, schema and semantic growth
I took responsibility for AfricaSoccer in October 2025 and focused first on the technical and structural foundations of the website rather than simply producing more content.
Technical SEO lead
I took over SEO in October 2025 and focused on technical SEO, site architecture, internal linking, schema and semantic optimisation. Ahrefs shows estimated organic traffic rising from around 10k a month at takeover to more than 60k within a few months, peaking at around 70k, alongside a major increase in Top 10 rankings.
The SEO challenge
The website had strong organic potential, but technical implementation and information structure were limiting how effectively Google could crawl, connect and understand the site.
Sports publishing creates dense relationships between competitions, teams, players and editorial content, so architecture and semantics matter as much as individual page optimisation.
What I worked on
Technical remediation
Crawlability, indexation, metadata and template-level fixes
Information architecture
Improved relationships between major content and entity types
Internal linking
Stronger discovery pathways and contextual connections
Structured data
Extensive schema implementation across relevant page types
Semantic SEO
Clearer relationships between teams, competitions, players and content
Search intent
Content optimisation grounded in what users were actually looking for
Results and impact
The subsequent visibility growth was substantial across both Search Console and third-party search estimates.
The project combines technical SEO, sports search, schema, semantics and large-scale organic growth.
